The property is located in the III. district of Budapest, and we were tasked with its complete renovation. The apartment consists of one bedroom, a living room-kitchen, an entryway, and a bathroom. Our client is a young athlete who wanted this layout to be realized for himself. The space distribution was not the easiest task, as there are many recesses and non-movable wall sections. We aimed to create the most optimal layout possible, ensuring the renovated property would feel like a true home. Our interior design plans were tailored to a practical, stylish, and masculine design.

CHALLENGE

Interior design plans can be incredibly helpful to owners when they collaborate with us before the work processes begin, allowing us to plan the key elements in advance. That’s why we were really happy that, in this case, they approached us in time, and we were able to customize the preliminary plans to fit their needs. A minor challenge was the design of the bedroom, as some recessed wall sections made it more difficult to create a comfortable and practical layout.

The concept

Overall, the most important aspect during the design process was creating a proper separate bedroom. With a double bed and some storage space, there was no room for much else in this area. Therefore, we placed a built-in wardrobe along a full wall in the entryway, which is the most suitable for storage. The doors of the wardrobe are made of mirrored glass, achieving an optical enlargement of the space. The layout of the entire apartment divided the property into smaller rooms, so we made sure to use finishes and materials throughout that would expand the space and create a more spacious feeling. The kitchen’s style is masculine, but we also made sure to incorporate bolder, more vibrant colors into the space. The entryway follows a more minimalist design, and as you move deeper into the apartment, bolder designs and color schemes become more prominent.

Kitchen

The kitchen is arranged in a U-shape within the space. This layout allowed us to incorporate a bar/dining counter, which also functions as a space divider. The cabinet fronts are dark, Ikea Nickebo model. Above the coffee machine area, we designed an open shelving unit, which is also an Ikea product. The kitchen wall is tiled with Marazzi Lume tiles, which beautifully stand out next to the dark cabinet panels. For the countertop, we chose a lighter option, so the color scheme of the entryway floor is reflected on this surface as well. The lighting fixtures contribute a sense of luxury and uniqueness to the space.

Living room

The living room is located directly next to the kitchen. We positioned a smaller Ikea sofa next to the dining counter, ensuring it faces the wall where the TV is placed. The sofa is an L-shaped, pull-out model with three seats, and its color harmonizes well with the kitchen wall tiles. Fitting all the necessary functions into such a small space was a challenge, but since the owner particularly enjoys hosting guests, it was crucial to include a seating area in the design to accommodate this need.

Entryway

The entryway floor is covered with a highly popular terrazzo tile, which, while playful, also gives the space a modern and clean look. For the lighting, we wanted to introduce darker colors that will later become more dominant in the other living areas. The presence of OracDecor wall panels has become quite beloved in homes today. They create a unique, special, and visually striking wall surface in the entryway. This can be further complemented with a bench or mounted shelves, adding both functionality and style to the space.

Bedroom

The style of the bedroom follows a masculine theme, but with the addition of colors on the walls to bring a touch of playfulness to the small space. To separate the two colors, we used Orac Decor decorative molding. The bed is a Samoa – Bside Samoa custom model, which adds a bit of luxury to the design. The nightstands and the dresser are elegant, high-quality French furniture, completing the refined and sophisticated atmosphere of the room.

Bathroom

We are big fans of Marazzi tiles, which we love to incorporate into nearly every project. The bathroom’s floor space is small, but the use of various colors in the design helps define the different functions within the space. To complement the strong, dominant colors, we chose similarly bold and characterful cabinet panels. The shower wall frame is black, outlining its lines and creating a defined structure. The LED light from the sink mirror provided enough illumination, so we didn’t need to add any additional light fixtures, helping to avoid a feeling of overcrowding in the space.
