This house is located in the Budapest metropolitan area, and the Flamingo Interiors team was tasked with designing the living room and kitchen areas. The property is part of a newly built project, and our job was to create these living spaces in harmony with the existing construction. Our interior design team was called in after the electrical connections had been established, and the main connections were already in place. We had to closely follow these when organizing the layout. A couple will be moving into the house, and this will be their primary space, where they plan to host their children and spend most of their time.
CHALLENGE
Interior design can be extremely helpful to owners when they collaborate with us on the key aspects before the construction processes begin. In this case, the challenge was that the electrical outlets were already determined, so we had to design everything in alignment with them. Our task is always easier when we’re entrusted with the design work before these decisions are made. It’s important to highlight that the most precise interior design plans are created when we first position the furniture and adjust the outlet placements and lighting fixtures accordingly. Despite the initial constraints, the final result speaks for itself, as we successfully achieved an interior style that best suits the client’s needs.
The concept
The apartment features a modern, minimalist style, with a color palette combining white, gray, beige, and black. The kitchen cabinetry was designed with a high-gloss finish using Egger PerfectSense panels, giving it an elegant, polished look instead of a natural effect. To balance this high-gloss finish, we introduced natural surfaces, using an oak-colored countertop from the Egger product range to soften the cool feel.
The kitchen was designed in a U-shape, as the owners wanted a breakfast bar that connects directly to the kitchen. Thanks to the large windows, the natural light makes the space feel bright and airy. The area extends into the living room with a sofa set placed next to the breakfast bar, with the TV mounted on the wall opposite. Behind the TV, a premium, concrete-effect gray lamella runs along the wall, adding texture and visual interest.
Due to the limited storage space in the living room, we designed a suitable cabinet under the TV, which helps conceal clutter. The living room has two large windows stretching from floor to ceiling in an L-shape, and to complement this, we chose a round dining table with four dining chairs. Despite the small size of the space, the distinct functional areas are well-separated, and we’ve created practical yet stylish solutions throughout the layout.
Kitchen
In this space, we designed a U-shaped kitchen layout. The U-shaped cabinetry works excellently as a space divider. The area between the living room and kitchen has been transformed into a functional bar counter, ideal for two people for breakfast or even for guests to join in the cooking process. This practical solution allows for short, efficient workflows in the kitchen, following precise planning to ensure minimal movement during food preparation. It also offers a great opportunity for guests to be involved in the process while maintaining a sense of openness and connection between the kitchen and living areas.
Living room
The living and dining areas are located directly next to the kitchen. We placed the smaller-sized seating arrangement between the dining table and the kitchen to face the existing TV wall, which helps avoid a sense of overcrowding by breaking up the space’s unity. The sofa is a straight, 3-seater Italian design, made unique with high-quality fabric material. The dining table and chairs are French design pieces, bringing an elegant and timeless touch to the space. This thoughtful arrangement ensures the space feels open and balanced, maintaining functionality while offering a sophisticated aesthetic.
